2020 NWT health guidelines cover children and youth considering hormones or puberty blockers and can connect them to out-of-territory specialists.
The official territorial guidelines, effective 21 December 2020, say children and youth who have not finished puberty raise complex decisions about diagnosis, hormones, or puberty blocking hormones. They recommend referral to the general pediatric service at Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, which can then connect the child to pediatric endocrinology or adolescent medicine outside the NWT. Adult hormone therapy is generally started in-territory. There is no territorial medical ban.
