The National Academy of Medicine called for the greatest medical reserve — prolonged psychological support, and only cautious multidisciplinary decisions on blockers or opposite-sex hormones. A 2024 Senate bill would further restrict pediatric care.
On 28 May 2024 the Senate adopted a proposition de loi to restrict pediatric gender-dysphoria care and transmitted it to the Assemblée nationale. The adopted Senate text would ban cross-sex hormones and reassignment surgery before 18 and confine first puberty-blocker prescriptions to listed reference centres after multidisciplinary review and a two-year wait. Until both houses pass and promulgate a law, the Senate text is not in force.
Schools detail
Article L. 312-16 of the Code de l’éducation, cited on the official éduscol page, requires information and sexuality education in écoles, collèges, and lycées at least three sessions a year by age group, in public schools and private schools under contract. The national EVAR (primary) and EVARS (collège and lycée) programme, in force from the 2025 rentrée and set out on éduscol, implements that statute and includes equality, sexual orientation, and gender identity among the themes.
