Documentos de identidadNotarized statement; professional letter under 16
An applicant 16 or older, born in Newfoundland and Labrador or resident for at least three months, can apply to change the sex designation. The application includes a notarized statement of the gender identity. Under 16, a parent applies and a prescribed professional's statement is required. The province warns it cannot guarantee that a birth certificate with an X marker will be accepted elsewhere.

PrisionesPlaced by gender identity
For a federal sentence of two years or more, placement after intake follows gender identity or expression, regardless of anatomy, unless a health or safety problem cannot be resolved. A federal research report looked at 99 offenders recorded as identifying as transgender. The largest group, 62 percent, were trans-identified males. Sixteen percent applied to move to an institution matching their gender identity, and 64 percent of those applications were approved.
