Escuelas — nombres y pronombresSchool name rule changed

School rules on a student's chosen first name and pronouns were revised effective 1 January 2025. The revision changes informal use of that name and those pronouns, and the expectations for communicating with families. The new wording is not set out. An earlier version, described in June 2023, required parental consent before a preferred first name was used officially for a student under 16.

PrisionesPlaced by gender identity

For a federal sentence of two years or more, placement after intake follows gender identity or expression, regardless of anatomy, unless a health or safety problem cannot be resolved. A federal research report looked at 99 offenders recorded as identifying as transgender. The largest group, 62 percent, were trans-identified males. Sixteen percent applied to move to an institution matching their gender identity, and 64 percent of those applications were approved.
