Since December 2024, regulated health professionals are prohibited from performing sex-reassignment surgery on minors. As of 7 January 2026, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for gender dysphoria or gender incongruence are prohibited for children under 16. Youth aged 16 and 17 may still start them if a parent or guardian, a physician, and a psychologist all approve. A minor who had already started is excepted, as is a disorder of sex development.

Since 1 September 2025, female-only divisions for athletes 12 and older are limited to athletes whose sex at birth is female. Sex at birth means the sex on the birth registration document.

If a student asks staff to use a new name or pronouns related to gender identity, the school must notify the parent. Staff may not use that name or those pronouns for a student under 16 unless the parent consents.

No provincial ban on adult sex-rejecting procedures was identified.

For a federal sentence of two years or more, placement after intake follows gender identity or expression, regardless of anatomy, unless a health or safety problem cannot be resolved. A federal research report looked at 99 offenders recorded as identifying as transgender. The largest group, 62 percent, were trans-identified males. Sixteen percent applied to move to an institution matching their gender identity, and 64 percent of those applications were approved.
